Have you begun to notice bags under your eyes? Wrinkles in your lower lids? If so, lower lid blepharoplasty may be your perfect solution. This procedure can be employed to correct bags under the eyes and hollowness, fine wrinkles on the lower eyelids, and loose skin on the lower eyelids that causes the appearance of sagging.
Depending on the amount of change to the tissues in the area, your eyelid procedure will require as little as one hour or as many as three to complete. After the application of anesthesia, there will be two options for your incision.
The traditional option is a small cut made below the lower eyelid’s eyelash line. If you do not have issues with excess skin but instead are specifically suffering from excess fatty deposits (bags), your cosmetic surgeon can instead use a different incision: the transconjunctival incision. This is created on the inside of the lower lid, a location ideal for hiding any marks that result from the procedure.
Once your incisions have been created, your cosmetic surgeon will be free to alter the tissues in the area and create a younger, rejuvenated look for your lower lids. The incisions will then be closed using medical stitches or other dressings.
Because the incisions used in this procedure are quite small and the degree of change is minimal, the lower lid blepharoplasty recovery process will usually be relatively short. You’ll need to be gentle with the areas, which will help them heal faster and without complications. This will involve avoiding heavy exercise and staying home from work for a time. Protecting your incisions with sunglasses will also be necessary.
Cold compresses will be helpful for minimizing bruising and swelling that can result from the procedure. Lubricating ointment will keep your eyes moist instead of dry. After three days to a week, your stitches will be removed, as will the bandages.
